Why I want to be part of Envirolution:
I truly believe in the potential of our generation and its ability to end global warming and make sure that this planet is around in all its beauty and wonder for many many future generations. We actually already have so much of the technology—what we need is commitment, organization, leadership, and support. I think green business is fantastic because it shows that there is an economic value in going green, thereby getting people who otherwise wouldn't be interested in the environment involved. Efficiency is key to our mission—making any organization's business model environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable saves so much time, money, and energy. All in all, I believe it is our generation's responsibility to use our skills to save this planet for future generations, and I am motivated to work with people who share my ideology and resolve.
What I can contribute to Envirolution:
Above all – Commitment and energy. But also, I am currently a West Coaster, and Envirolution is in full force out here. There are so so so many people committed to it. It is truly inspiring. From companies working on green energy, green building/architecture, or sustainable consumer goods to nonprofits lobbying for environmental reforms and increasing awareness, I have been blown away by the green movement's devotees here in Northern Cali. Besides that, I also work for Global Exchange (globalexchange.org), an awesome environmental and human rights nonprofit based in San Fran. Two summers ago I helped out with my boss's book, Building the Green Economy, which was just published. It's about people in the US who have won local environmental victories for their communities and the lessons we can learn from them. I learned about a mother in Maine who organized a movement to make the paper company in her town stop pouring sludge into the river where her son swam everyday; a Republican mayor in Indiana who is switching the gas stations in his town to biodiesel because his constituents are tired of feeling dependent on foreign oil; a logger in Oregon who realized it was in his company's best interest to make its methods more sustainable in order to ensure that his company would be around in ten years; and so many more. These people are not your everyday treehugger, yet they are making vital societal contributions in the Envirolutionist spirit. I hope that the inspiration I gain from these people and from other fellow Envirolutionists will ignite others to educate and inspire themselves, take action, create change, and in turn inspire others.
What I am currently working on for Envirolution:
I'm doing some research, editing some of our documents, focusing on grant writing, organizing stuff in general, spreading the Envirolution love, and just helping out in any way I can. I have been learning so so much from other people involved in Envirolution.
What I am into, besides Envirolution:
People, my friends, cali, tahoe, getting better at snowboarding, the beach, camping, traveling, spanish, latin america,

Envirolution Challenge Score: 81
Why I want to be part of Envirolution:
Wow, I could write a book on why I want to be a part of Envirolution. But I'll try and cut it down. Most importantly is that I truly believe that there is a better way for humans to live together and with our environment. Our generation has set before us a challenge. Not only an environmental challenge, but also social, political, ideological and economical challenges. I believe our generation is going to lead a Green Revolution in which we are much more altruistic in our endeavors. We will take into account, in both our personal and business lives, our impact on the environment and the community around us. Gone will be the days of profit being the bottom line, and arriving is the Triple Bottom Line. Taking into account financial gains as well as environmental and social impacts will enhance the wealth of everyone. We are going to shift into a sustainable world that is extremely profitable and efficient.
I also just want to show everyone how easy it is to make a difference by doing small things everyday. It does not require us to change our entire lifestyles and make huge sacrifices. It only requires adopting new habits and values and making them a part of your everyday life. I want people to feel empowered by living this way and feel that they are living a more fulfilling life.
What I can contribute to Envirolution:
I can contribute everything I have. I love people, all people. I want to reach out to these people. I want to educate and empower them to make this change. I believe my people skills and my ability to interact with all walks of life will enable me to help Envirolution in the goal of reaching as many people as possible.
I will contribute a full love, belief and faith in this movement that people will feel.
Everyday I will bring an extreme enthusiasm and energy that I hope will be contagious.
I will give the full passion that I live my life by to achieving the aims of Envirolution.
I am not afraid to make personal sacrifices for the common good of everybody.
What I am currently working on for Envirolution:
Organizing and Mobilizing the Envirolution:
-This includes a wide array of organizational and administrative details and logistics in getting this organization off the ground.
-Trying to hype up and recruit as many people to join us in this cause.
-Contacting current leaders in the green movement to align with us and serve as mentors.
-I plan on working on funding initiatives.
-I am constantly brainstorming for new, innovative ideas to make this Envirolution dream a reality.
-I'm working on the mission statement, the Call, and other information that will go into the website.
Essentially I am helping to in the creation of the forum, network, and platform so that everyone can work together.
What I am into, besides Envirolution:
Music, sports-mainly hoops, enjoying the beauty of nature, traveling (I love traveling and learning and experiencing a new culture), hiking, biking, swimming, dancing (I would definitely love to learn all different types of dancing from salsa to swing), reading, and in the future I fully intend on learning to play the piano and I have a secret passion for sailing and want to sail the entire world on my own boat.

Why I want to be part of Envirolution:
Because it's time for our (the younger) generation to step up. Shit has hit the fan and we cannot afford to wait for anybody else to clean it up. We have to be the ones to lead this movement (and live it).
People are change-averse, so it is logical that there will be some resistance from older generations, but I truly think that our generation is uniquely able to take on this challenge. The technology is out there, and most, if not all of us are ready for change. So lets step up and figure it out.
What I can contribute to Envirolution:
All that I got. I'm pretty good at some stuff and anything else I can learn. But if I had to offer some specific skill to contribute to the cause, I guess it would be my ability to "mobilize and organize" (and to empower people).

Why I want to be part of Envirolution:
Honestly, it's because these are the facts. The truth speaks for itself, the world is on the verge of an over dose. It's time someone stepped in for the better sake of decision making and intervened. For me, this is how it happened. I met these guys (Alex, Antuan and Tim) at least a year ago in NYC and at the time, I was the last person thinking about environmental sustainability. I used to be the guy in the city who drove an SUV and threw McDonald's rappers out the window as I drove (sorry). I mean don't get me wrong even then, small issues would arise in my life that would make me think about the environment. For example, one of the most alarming thoughts was one day when I was driving and I tossed something. The woman I was with in my vehicle asked me to pull over, so I did. She looked at me dead in my face and said, "I want to tell you something". She said, "Ant, think about this for a second. Imagine every thing you throw out the window piling up in one spot. Now picture that same spot years from now. It would be a lot bigger. It would be big enough to acknowledge and dislike. Now picture that pile still being there, even bigger when your little girl is growing up. Do you really want her around all that ?" That woman, had a very good
point. and I understood. After really hanging out with these guys and hearing the admiration and true concern for the earth they shared. It dawned on me. This isn't just "my world", even though this is "my life" this isn't my world. And if we don't care for it now, who's going to care for it when it's too late ?
What I can contribute to Envirolution:
I'm here to spread the word.
I can offer my verbal creativity and much more. I am a song writer and performer as you might have seen (60 second video). I might put a new video every month or so discussing other issues. I grew up in NYC almost my entire life. I know a lot of people (artists, musicians and so on..)and will not hesitate to use those connections to benefit The Envirolution. I am not hesitant on being social and outgoing with complete strangers from any background. I represent the big urban city style side of the spectrum. Us, city people have grown up causing so much global damage and have not been properly educated at the times we should have been. I think coming from this type of background (big city kid), an "insider" may be able to break down a lot of the rebellion from urban retrospect. Hopefully this will get the ball rolling and like Isaac said, "an object in motion will stay in motion, unless effected by an outside force"
What I am currently working on for Envirolution:
I just shot one 60 sec. video. I'm working on a FULL song for Envirolution. Something that gets as in depth and as most explanatory as possible. Knowledge is power, I'm hear to spread the word. I'm great at getting people's attention, give me ears and I'll give you something to listen to.
What I am into, besides Envirolution:
Real Estate, Music, Writing, Bikes, Skateboards, and anything that will get your adrenaline pumping.
Suggested article, website, book:
This website is a great start. It is very informative for those who nothing of the cause. Like I said though, even I'm still in the process of being converted. So for now, take a look at the others' suggestions.

About Me: ! I'm going to be running the High School Envirolution Club and passing the word on to the younger generations! Starting in the Truckee Tahoe area then going on to the northern California area .
Also, since I am currently living in Switzerland (for the year), I am taking on the European outlook. We can learn a lot from the Europeans. They have a lot to teach us and again its the little things that help. We need to work together as a team and try to fix the HUGE mess that past generations have made !

Why I want to be part of Envirolution:
I want to be part of Envirolution because I believe it is the necessary movement of our generation. It is impossible to overstate how important it is that a true transformation occur in the way we live, act, and think. Individually, we are each but a tiny part of the puzzle. But there is no other worthwhile pursuit for an individual life than to attempt to live out one's beliefs. The transformation must begin with the individual. Thus, I want to be a part of the envirolution, because to not dedicate myself to it would be to betray my belief that it must happen.
What I can contribute to Envirolution:
Myself, my ideas, my motivation, and my true beliefs in its necessity and goodness.
What I am currently working on for Envirolution:
I am working on getting my law degree at the University of Montana, to put myself in a position to help environmentally and socially conscious business entities and individuals from a legal perspective. At law school, I plan to be active in the Environmental Law Group, working for change where I can and networking with other like-minded individuals at my law school and others.
What I am into, besides Envirolution:
I am into everything outdoors, with an emphasis on backpacking, natural hot springs, and most importantly, DISC GOLF!! I love the energy generated by groups with common purposes and find great satisfaction in participating in such groups.

Why I want to be part of The Envirolution:
My daughter, Livia Vera, was born on January 28th of this year. I believe it is my duty to help bring about a change in this world. We need to consistently move towards a sustainable way of life on a global scale, until we achieve it. This will ensure the viability of our future generations to which my daughter already belongs. Without a change in our attitudes, philosophies, and ways of lives, from one of consumption to one of sustainability, the currently living generations, let alone our species, will not survive.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution:
I have a wide range of interests, and I speak a number of different languages fluently (including French, German, and Swiss German, and some Spanish). I can speak to a range of people about different topics from various points of view to help bring the message of The Envirolution to the rest of the world. I have had an interest in sustainable living and development, and I having gathered a wide range of information and ideas over the last years, which could directly and indirectly benefit The Envirolution. I can help translate parts of The Envirolution website into German and French.
What I am currently working on for The Envirolution:
Currently I contribute articles from time to time to The Envirolution Blogspot. I hope to be more involved as The Envirolution also spreads to Europe, and to help make that happen.
What I am into, besides The Envirolution:
I’m an IT geek meets massage therapist. I studied two years of philosophy after I got my engineering degree, and I also got into natural healing and cutting edge quantum mechanical medicine. I am a movie buff, and I like comedies and laughing. I enjoy Italian and Asian Food, I like playing sports, and I’m always up for a good time. If this speaks to you, leave me a message at The Envirolution Dating Service (TEDS, as of yet a fictitious but promising Envirolution Service).

Two websites on Fair Trade:

One big step towards creating a sustainable and balanced way of life for everyone on this planet is to make trade fair. Making trade fair will make it clear what levels of consumption and production are possible in a given society because everyone else will be taken into account as well, and if the prices paid for goods or services rendered are fair, then exploitation becomes more difficult (by virtue of the fact that the limits of resources become apparent).

Why I want to be part of The Envirolution?
There are so many reasons why I want to be part of The Envirolution but the first is that I can’t think of any reason NOT to be involved. I love to be out doors and I want my children, grand children, and great grand children to be able to experience the same natural beauty that I have. More importantly, I want to be a part of The Envirolution to help spread the word and empower individuals to step and make a difference. The time is now. It is up to our generation to step up and take sustainability to the next level, and that is exactly what The Envirolution is doing.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution?
I can contribute a love for our environment that began years ago while I grew up in the most beautiful place on Earth, Truckee California. For those of you who don’t know where Truckee is, it is in the Sierra Nevada Mountains 15 mile north of Lake Tahoe. And my dedication to do any thing that I can do to help contribute to saving our planet and stopping global warming.
What I am currently working on for The Envirolution?
Currently, I am in charge of Mobilizing and Organizing the Chico Chapter of The Envirolution. The goal is to have a Chico State Envirolution Club underway some time at the beginning of the Fall 2007 semester. I am also in the process of putting together Envirolution T-shirts (If anyone has any ideas for a t-shirt please contact me at dgalvin1@mail.csuchico.edu). I am also involved in The Envirolution Experience ‘07 which will showcase environmental leadership and innovation across the business, government, and grassroots communities in the Reno/Tahoe area (some time in June). The idea is to educate and empower everyone to become environmentally pro-active in their personal and professional lives.
What am I into, besides The Envirolution?
I love sports; baseball, basketball, disc golf, and ball golf. I love being outside enjoying what nature has to offer. I enjoy hiking, backpacking, camping, fishing, riding my bike, and traveling.

Why I want to be a part of The Envirolution:
Previous generations have done a lot of damage to the environment and natural world. At the rate we're going, the planet we know and love will be destroyed. I want to lead the world into sustainability.
I am working on a business plan to start a biodiesel production company, using algae as a feedstock.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution:
Blood, sweat, and ideas. Knowledge of green building ideas and processes as well as renewable energy. I am an entrepreneur, and think that profitable green businesses are the key to making changes.
What I am currently working on for The Envirolution:
People and groups to contact for the conference.
What I am into, besides The Envirolution:
Skiing, biking, hiking and camping, and generally anything outdoors. Skydiving, SCUBA diving, and other adrenaline sports. I want to learn to kite-board and hangglide.
Travelling - After spending two months in London, two months in Namibia and South Africa, and two months in the Turks & Caicos Islands, I've decided I want to go everywhere in the world
I prefer developing to developed nations, because the people seem to get more out of life, they're not stuck in a 9-5 job that they hate. Also, I think it will be easier to institute change as countries develop, instead of fighting bureaucracy and lobbiests in the US and developed countries.
Reading and learning constantly, and I won't stop.
I like trying new things, and I'm up for anything.
I like to cook almost as much as I like to eat and try new foods...
I work as a Field Engineer and Project Safety Manager for Whiting-Turner Contracting Company, and right now I'm working on a LEED laboratory building at the Yale School of Medicine. I am studying to become a LEED Accredited Professional.

Why I want to be part of The Envirolution:
We need greater awareness of climate change, social inequality (relevant in the form of environmental justice--eg poor people get pollution and asbestos), the impact that chemicals and byproducts are having on our world (traveling up to the tundra and killing oceans) and our bodies (immune systems, etc). The Envirolution has the potential to be a forum for discussing these and other issues (such as reconciling the political economy of oil, and the importance of our market presence in the middle east, along with the fact that burning oil releases a lot of CO2 and processing/burning is inefficient). We need more and more perspectives on these issues, and the best ways to approach them. We need to know what people from all walks of life consider to be their top priorities, and try to move these concerns higher up on that list. Ultimately, we need to make subtle changes in our lifestyles, and the personal decisions that go along with them. I believe that the Envirolution has potential to bring together a wide variety of perspectives, and provide another green launching pad.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution:
Research, leg work, love, and my special blend of optimism, cynicism, and realism.
What I am currently working on for The Envirolution: conference/event at Yale University emphasizing the profitability and responsibility of green enterprise and green investment decisions.
What I am into, besides The Envirolution:
I like hiking/camping, reading, mountain biking (though I bit it pretty hard recently), and trying to be a good person

Why I want to be part of The Envirolution:
Years of frustrated environmental activism in high school and college taught me that real change had to be systemic, not issue-oriented and from campaign to campaign. I realized that the same reasons people exploit the environment (they objectify it, value it for what it can earn them in a financial sense within industrial capitalism, rather than recognizing any intrinsic rights and worth) are the same reasons people of color, women, children, and those in poverty get marginalized and exploited as well. I turned my attention to education, hoping that building fundamental knowledge and critical thinking skills, as well as awareness of environmental issues, would bring whole new sectors into the political arena to start assuring these ecological and social gains. As with environmental activism, my efforts and good intentions yielded results within my immediate sphere of influence, but little progress in terms of larger structures.
How does one change a whole nation's (or planet's, for that matter) public education infrastructure? Health system? Criminal justice codes? Self-destructive industrial and agricultural sectors? Insistence on violence as a solution to problems? And most importantly, feeling of entitlement by the powerful to exploit those of lower status, both human and non-human? The task overwhelms me still, but I see among my coworkers, classmates, friends, relatives, and neighbors a shared awareness of the heightening urgency of such a task. The awareness draws us together. It sparks conversations, motivates volunteering projects, and even ambitious enterprise. The Envirolution is the perfect forum for all of us. A whole generation charged with essentially redesigning a whole model for civilization, and the Three Spheres framework is the key. Here, the teachers, engineers, park rangers, musicians, doctors, lawyers, journalists, and activists can merge fields, building on each other's ideas. Good ideas inevitably spread, especially when so much is at stake. And that's why I want to be part of The Envirolution.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution:
Most importantly, I bring passion to the pursuit of solutions. I want to be able to tell my children that our generation overcame institutions and individuals with vested interests in exploiting others and the Earth itself to at least begin the shift towards sustainability and the collective good. Thus, I bring my 16 years of overseas experience, resiliency and insight gained from teaching in low income neighborhoods, knowledge and skills afforded by a sound education, and my unearned privilege associated with being a healthy, fair-skinned, middle-class male into advancing awareness and action for this movement.
What I am currently working on for The Envirolution:
In August '07 I'll be finishing up a graduate degree in Climate and Society, an interdisciplinary program based on understanding the climate system, its natural variability, anthropogenic impacts, and implications for world populations, especially those in developing nations. First and foremost, however, I am a classroom teacher for early elementary students, teaching not only the state mandated content standards, but also contextualizing them in a foundation of critical thinking, social justice, environmental protection, and equity.
What I am into, besides The Envirolution:
I love working with kids of all ages, because their optimism, sense of fairness, resiliency, and inquisitiveness (all of which can sometimes be fairly well hidden, but always there) inspire me like almost nothing else. Also, I like spending time outdoors, reading, listening to music, and playing team sports.
Suggested article, website, book:
Just one? It would have to be Derrick Jensen's Culture of Make Believe, which ties together the Three Spheres framework like no other book I've read. Close behind is Edward Abbey's The Monkeywrench Gang, because it's just hella fun.

Why I want to be part of The Envirolution:
I love nature and I want to be able to hang out in beautiful places without worrying that it might be at risk of vanishing. I love breathing clean air, and I hate seeing trash on the ground. I love trees, and flowers and hybrids. I don't like SUVs or litter bugs.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution:
I am hoping to contribute my spirit to the Envirolution, and for starters make my friends and family aware of the huge task at hand that we must face A-SAP. What I am currently working on for The Envirolution: I am planning on curating an exhibition at NYU some time in the spring that shows artists who deal with pressing issues surrounding the environment, as well as celebrating its beauty. The aim of the show is to educate those involved and attending of the cause of the Envirolution. The ideas are in place, it is our task to rally the troops and start the revolution!
What I am into, besides The Envirolution:
I love art, going to museums and galleries and fairs. I am a pretty good seamstress, I know how to crochet, so if you need a winter scarf you know where to come. I like being outdoors, exploring new stuff and traveling. I am always up to do anything out of the ordinary. I think sharks and snakes are cool and I love kitties. Soccer, skiing, shopping and just chillin with friends.

Google is building solar panels on top of all their buildings in the bay area (my home town!!!) which will provide for them 30% of their daily use of energy. The project is expected to cost around $10 million, but Google isn't worried because the project will eventually pay for itself. Google also hopes to set the trend among big companies to become greener.

Why I want to be part of The Envirolution:
Because more than 90% of the world's fresh waters are contaminated. Because Arctic mothers can no longer breastfeed their children due to PCB, mercury and other contaminants that have bio-accumulated in the whale and seal meat that is a mainstay of the traditional diet. Because GMO crops are the norm not the exception. Because we have reached Peak Oil and the worst is yet to come. Because someone will read this and ask a question and together we can light the paths to the answers.
What I can contribute to The Envirolution:
Energy! Support and insight to mobilize the masses be it through direct communication at colleges, on a street corner or through conversation over a pint Guinness. I'm creative, artistic, play guitar, write poetry, deliver spoken word, studied photography, journalism, and hold a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology. I have contacts along the East Coast, Canada, Alaska, and Mexico. I speak, read, and write Spanish, though not fluently. But overall I believe it is my outgoing, engaging personality paired with a genuine desire to affect change that will prove most valuable in our Envirolution. I can see myself contributing in the areas of Public Relations, Marketing, Research, Writing, and on-the-ground mobilization of support as alluded to earlier.
What I am currently working on for The Envirolution:
-Adding to the Call to our Generation.-Spreading the word to those who can contribute to the cause, trying to get a radio plug atSkidmore College, Plattsburgh and St. Rose Universities.-Contacting speakers and bands in the Northeast for the April conference at Yale.-Reading from Green to Gold and Grass-Roots Postmodernism.-Spreading the Envirolution this weekend at Plattsburgh State University.

What I am into, besides The Envirolution:
-Meditation, travel, snowboarding, music, conversation, making the difference, daily, in the lives of autistic triplets in Mt. Kisco, NY.
